Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development receives Singapore Management University Students

Abu Dhabi, May 2012 - Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development (ADCED) received a student delegation from the Singapore Management University (SMU), as part of their “Business Study Mission” course at the SMU. This is the fourth time such a delegation from SMU visits ADCED.

The visit came in line with ADCED’s programme of educational and professional development where opportunities are made available for students and interns to join ADCED and benefit from on-site training and internship. In this respect, Mr. Fahad Saeed Al-Raqbani, the Director General of ADCED said:“It’s our pleasure to welcome students from Singapore Management University at ADCED. It’s indeed a great opportunity to exchange information with the students for the fourth time and to introduce the Economic Vision 2030”.

Officials from the Economic Council welcomed the delegation and gave a presentation about the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030. In addition, the presentation highlighted the growth and development of a number of sectors of Abu Dhabi’s economy such as energy (oil &gas), aerospace and defense, media, tourism, education, financial services, and healthcare equipment.

Following the presentation, a Q&A session was held where students asked questions about various aspects of economic development in Abu Dhabi and about the nature of work at ADCED. Many students expressed their admiration of the development which they have witnessed in Abu Dhabi.

Charmaine Tan Hui Min, a student at SMU said: “Development plans such as the Abu Dhabi 2030 do not come by every day. It was impressive to note their foresight and level of attention paid to detail in ADCED's strategic plan for Abu Dhabi's economic development.”SMU students also asked questions about the private sector and entrepreneurship, education and women’s participation in the workforce. They also asked about the role of ADCED in the implementation of the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.

The 68-member delegation was headed by Dr Caroline Yeoh, Associate Professor at the SMU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Business. The visit comes as part of students’ study and is focused on developing relationships between the GCC countries and Singapore through the study of the business environment in these countries. The study tour included visits to Qatar and Oman from May 7to May 20, 2012. The aim of the tour is to let students become acquainted with views and approaches of various GCC countries towards economy.
